Shide Boss, 22, hails from East Midlands and is a British singer/songwriter signed to Sony / ATV / Karman. Shide has been singing since a young age but only really recognised his potential to turn professional after winning Channel 4’s Hollyoaks Unsigned Music Show. The programme, a spin-off of the popular teen soap Hollyoaks, was a music talent show aimed at finding the hottest unsigned act in the UK.
Shide explains: “I’ve enjoyed singing since a young age but only took it seriously after Hollyoaks. I used to mess around making music and then met a producer called Marcus James through a mutual friend. Marcus was actually the one who found out about the Hollyoaks Music Show and we entered a track we worked on together. We entered the show on the last day of entry with no real aim but to get our song ‘It’s Alright’ out there.”
Shide went on to win the show, beating hundreds of talented entrants and performed “It’s Alright” on the final. The song was written by Shide and produced by Marcus James and is a smooth slice of easy pop/R&B. The song earned Shide over 5,000 public votes in just a matter of hours, crowning him the winner of the Channel 4 show, which was watched by 1.4 million people nationwide.
After winning the show, Shide caught the attention of several major labels, and signed for Sony’s emerging record label and management company Karman Entertainment, a bespoke UK based music company which has been launched in association with music publishing powerhouse Sony / ATV.
On his deal, Shide comments: “After Hollyoaks, I was getting lots of calls and went in to see a few major record labels. Karman offered me a great platform and as I’m also a songwriter, signing with them and Sony / ATV was a dream come true. We’ve been working together on creating music which is fresh and unique and will take many in the UK by surprise.”
Shide grew up listening to R&B music and lists the likes of Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men as his idols. Possessing undeniable vocal and song-writing talent, Shide is looking at making his name at the highest possible level, but remains humble in his approach to the music business.
“I’m just doing what I love doing, and that’s making good music. I’ve looked up to the greats since I was a kid, and I know it’s a long road to get to where they are, but my dream is to be up there with them one day.”
Shide’s debut single “Ni Sohniye” is a fusion of pop, R&B and Asian beats and the confident singer doesn’t shy away from his Asian routes, singing the chorus in Punjabi to create a unique blend with his soulful verses. The track has gone down a storm in the UK, surpassing 125,000 hits in just 2 months.
“Ni Sohniye” is taken off Shide’s debut EP “Rainbow”, a collection of 6 songs produced by Marcus James, which is out to buy now on iTunes and all good music stores.
